Booking & Scheduling

  • I recommend booking your session 4 to 6 weeks in advance, especially for weekend slots during the popular spring and fall seasons in Metro Vancouver. For maternity and lifestyle newborn sessions, it's best to reach out during your second trimester so we can reserve a flexible window around your due date.

A lot of people say that its best to photograph the baby up the 21 days old as its still sleepy and won’t move around a lot. I like this window of opportunity, but in reality the mum is still healing, and is exhausted from nighttime feeds. She doesn’t always want to get up and dressed and put on makeup and be photo ready. I almost like it better when the baby unfolds around the 3 month mark.  Your choice of course.

  • This is Vancouver, so rain is always a possibility! I closely monitor the weather leading up to our session. If heavy rain or high winds are forecast, we have two excellent options: we can either reschedule to a backup date or pivot to an in-home lifestyle session, which creates beautiful, cozy, and natural family memories, or my studio. 3 lovely choices so you wont have to worry.

  • This is something that crops up all the time, we have no control when fever or tummy upsets happen. No problem, we just reschedule for another day.

Wardrobe & Preparation

  • The goal is to look cohesive but not identically matched.  Wear comfortable. A flowey dress is always nice for Mums, and Dad is good in jeans or casual pants, with shirt to co-ordinate with Mums outfit. Use a vibrant accent color through accessories. Avoid heavy logos, tiny distracting patterns, or everyone wearing matching white shirts.

  • As a lifestyle family photographer, I completely expect and embrace high energy and shyness! My sessions are child-led, play-based, and completely stress-free. We will play games, explore the location, and let them be themselves. The best photos happen when kids are simply allowed to react naturally rather than being forced to sit still and say "cheese."
