Booking & Scheduling
-
I recommend booking your session 4 to 6 weeks in advance, especially for weekend slots during the popular spring and fall seasons in Metro Vancouver. For maternity and lifestyle newborn sessions, it's best to reach out during your second trimester so we can reserve a flexible window around your due date.
A lot of people say that its best to photograph the baby up the 21 days old as its still sleepy and won’t move around a lot. I like this window of opportunity, but in reality the mum is still healing, and is exhausted from nighttime feeds. She doesn’t always want to get up and dressed and put on makeup and be photo ready. I almost like it better when the baby unfolds around the 3 month mark. Your choice of course.

This is Vancouver, so rain is always a possibility! I closely monitor the weather leading up to our session. If heavy rain or high winds are forecast, we have two excellent options: we can either reschedule to a backup date or pivot to an in-home lifestyle session, which creates beautiful, cozy, and natural family memories, or my studio. 3 lovely choices so you wont have to worry.
-
This is something that crops up all the time, we have no control when fever or tummy upsets happen. No problem, we just reschedule for another day.
Wardrobe & Preparation
-
The goal is to look cohesive but not identically matched. Wear comfortable. A flowey dress is always nice for Mums, and Dad is good in jeans or casual pants, with shirt to co-ordinate with Mums outfit. Use a vibrant accent color through accessories. Avoid heavy logos, tiny distracting patterns, or everyone wearing matching white shirts.
-
As a lifestyle family photographer, I completely expect and embrace high energy and shyness! My sessions are child-led, play-based, and completely stress-free. We will play games, explore the location, and let them be themselves. The best photos happen when kids are simply allowed to react naturally rather than being forced to sit still and say "cheese."
Locations & Logistics
-
We are spoiled for choice in the Vancouver area! Some of my absolute favorite backdrops include the rustic paths and river views at Fraser River Park, the stunning mountain backdrops at Jericho Beach, and the lush greenery of local community parks. During our pre-session consultation, we will choose a location that perfectly fits your family's personality and mobility needs.
-
All family, maternity, and newborn packages include a pre-session styling consultation, the on-location shooting time, and a fully curated, professionally edited online gallery. Your high-resolution digital files will be delivered via a private, downloadable gallery within 2 to 3 weeks of your session date.
Session Experience & Kids
-
I use a blend of both! I never expect families to just stand there and look perfect. I provide gentle, fun, and active direction—giving you games to play, things to talk about, or prompts like "tickle your toddler"—to capture honest, joyful expressions. This keeps the energy light and natural, while ensuring you never have to wonder what to do with your hands.
-
Absolutely. When it comes to photographing young children, a happy, well-rested child always beats perfect lighting. While "golden hour" (the hour before sunset) offers beautiful light, I highly recommend scheduling outdoor or in-home sessions immediately following your child's morning or afternoon nap to ensure they have the best energy.
-
Yes, please! Pets are an important part of the family story. When booking, just let me know you'd like to bring your dog so we can choose a pet-friendly outdoor location in Metro Vancouver, like Fraser River Park. I also recommend bringing a friend or family member along for the first 15 minutes to handle the dog so we can capture some photos of just the humans afterward.
Newborn & Maternity Specifics
-
Unlike traditional studio newborn photography which requires babies to be under 14 days old, lifestyle newborn photography is much more flexible. Because these sessions take place in the comfort of your own home and focus on connection rather than stiff posing, we can shoot anytime within the first 2 to 6 weeks after birth.
I actually love the 2-3 month mark as the baby has unfolded, and Mum is feeling better.
-
Not at all. Please do not stress about cleaning your entire house! As a professional photographer, I am trained to look for light and angles, not dust. When I arrive, we will simply look for the rooms with the best natural light—usually the master bedroom, the nursery, or the living room couch. I will gently move any clutter (like tissue boxes or water bottles) out of the frame myself before we begin.
After the Session
-
Every session is slightly different, but a standard family or newborn session results in a fully curated, storytelling gallery of high-resolution digital files. You receive full personal print rights, allowing you to print your photos at any lab of your choice or share them directly with family and friends.
-
I know how exciting it is to see your family memories, so I pride myself on a speedy turnaround time. You will receive a private email link to your completed digital gallery within 2 weeks of your session date.
-
I collect 1/2 the amount of required amount for photoshoot when you book, the other 1/2 is required once the photoshoot is done.
