The 5 best kid friendly photo locations in Vancouver, BC. June 2026
Recently I have been doing a lot more outdoor photography sessions, and I find that happens when the Vancouver weather starts to warm up. I thought that I would share 5 of my most favourite locations in Vancouver, that are stroller friendly, have ease of parking, and have bathrooms.
1. Queen Elizabeth Park (The Versatile Option)
The Vibe: Manicured gardens, vibrant floral displays, and an incredible view of the downtown skyline and North Shore mountains.
Why Parents Love It: It offers massive variety in a small footprint. If one area is crowded, you can easily pivot to another beautiful backdrop.
The Logistics:
Parking: Paid parking lots throughout the park (can get busy on summer weekends).
Restrooms: Fully accessible public restrooms near the Bloedel Conservatory.
Stroller Access: Excellent. Paved, smooth paths throughout.
Local Insider Tip: The quarry garden offers great wind protection if it’s a breezy Vancouver day.
2. Jericho Beach or Spanish Banks (The West Coast Vibe)
The Vibe: Sandy beaches, driftwood, tidal pools, and stunning sunset views looking back at the city.
Why Parents Love It: Kids can actually run around and play here. It results in highly candid, natural, and joyful family photos for me as a vancouver family photographer.
The summer challenge: Sunset in June /July is that there is little shade, and golden hour starts at 8pm which coincides with toddler bedtimes!
The Logistics:
Parking: Large paid parking lots right next to the beach.
Restrooms: Available at the beach concession stands.
Stroller Access: Good on the main gravel paths, but you'll have to carry the stroller if you want to get right onto the sand.
Local Insider Tip: Check the tide charts before booking! Low tide at Spanish Banks exposes massive, beautiful sandbars that are magic at golden hour.
3. Pacific Spirit Regional Park (The Pacific Northwest Forest)
The Vibe: Moody, lush, towering Douglas firs, and moss-covered trails. Very classic "BC."
Why Parents Love It: The thick tree canopy acts as a giant natural umbrella. If it’s drizzling (classic Vancouver), you can still get beautiful, dry photos here.
The Logistics:
Parking: Free street parking along 16th Ave or near the park entrances.
Restrooms: Limited (port-a-potties at major trailheads, so have kids go before arriving).
Stroller Access: Good wide, flat gravel trails (perfect for an all-terrain stroller).
4. Iona Beach Regional Park, Richmond (The Long Grass & Open Skies)
The vibe: Located just past YVR, Iona Beach has a unique, desert-like aesthetic with tall, sun-bleached beach grass and driftwood. It feels completely different from the lush green forests of BC and looks stunning in summer wardrobe palettes (neutrals, linens, and warm tones).
The Summer Challenge: There is absolutely zero shade here.
The logistics:
Parking : large free parking lot on site
Restrooms: public washrooms
Stroller access : will need to carry stroller on beach area, but there are paths, and gravel walkway
You will have to give your kids an afternoon nap, and an early dinner. 7.30 pm is about the time you want to arrive here, its one of my favourite places for golden hour family photography in Vancouver.
5. Garry Point Park, Steveston (The Open-Sky Option)
The Vibe: Wide-open spaces, wild beach grass, historical docks, and epic, unobstructed sunset views over the Fraser River.
Why Parents Love It: It’s completely flat and wide open, meaning you can keep an eye on toddlers easily.
The Logistics:
Parking: Large free parking lot on-site.
Restrooms: Public washrooms located near the main entrance.
Stroller Access: Great gravel and paved loops.
Local Insider Tip: It gets incredibly windy here because it’s right on the water.
Bring a cute jacket or denim layers, and embrace the windswept hair look.
